The weekend is finally here, but we’re all stuck inside due to COVID-19 precautions. You’re probably asking yourself “What can I do to keep busy and stay sane over the next couple of days, and possibly weeks?”. We thought it would be a good idea to share some of our simple ways to stay sane during this time of self-isolation.

Less Mess = Less Stress
In a couple of weeks, it would be the time that we’d all begin to end our winter hibernation and get started on annual spring cleaning to get the house and family prepared for the warmer months. Since we’re currently in self-isolation mode, now is as good a time as any to get an early start on cleaning out the house.

Decluttering and getting organized during this time of uncertainty is a great way to clear your mind and minimize chaos in your own space. Not to mention, once Spring and Summer roll around, you’ll have the benefit of already being prepared and won’t have to find time to organize and clean once the real world gets back to normal.

Simple Spring-Cleaning Ideas:

  • Clear out the garage
  • Organize and purge your closets – if you have growing kids, this is a great way to know what clothes and shoes you’ll need to replace by the Summer
  • Organize the kitchen – time to clear out that junk drawer!
  • Home office organization

Indulge in The Things That Make You Happy
Just because we’re in self-isolation doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy ourselves! If having your favourite chocolate bar or bottle of wine, or just creating a relaxing environment for yourself is going to make you feel a bit better, then it’s time to indulge!

Creating a relaxing space at home can be as simple as lighting a few candles and getting started on that book you’ve been putting off. Give yourself an at home spa treatment, or download a meditation app to help put your mind at ease.

Utilize the world of online! There are so many experiences online that can be so much fun to take advantage of. Art Basel is moving to online viewing rooms where you can explore their digital platform that connects you to premier galleries and collectors around the world, from the ease of your own home. Many famous artists are also hosting live streamed concerts through Facebook, Instagram, and SiriusXM online, which are great for a much-needed dance party over the weekend.

Having these little experiences brings us joy in a time full of stress and anxiety, and it’s important to take the time for self-care while you have the means to do so.

Stay Active and Keep Moving
Doing what you can to stay active and healthy is one of the best ways to keep yourself sane. Exercise can be directly linked to mental health and when you keep active you are helping to keep your mind state positive. Staying active can be as simple as going for a bike ride or taking the dog for a walk outdoors (just remember to keep a safe distance from others).

With so many online fitness apps and videos, there are multiple options to choose from to get yourself moving!

  • Get your Yogi on with Core Power Yoga – offering free online classes
  • Orangetheory is sharing a new at-home workout every day online
  • Planet Fitness is offering 20-minute workout classes through Facebook Live
